Overview

The two week tour is a photographer’s delight. India is a fascinating and exotic country, and an incredible destination for the travel photographer. The heady mix of religions, cultures, and intense energy make it the most challenging and rewarding of destinations. On this tour, visit the world famous Pushkar Camel Fir with its numerous opportunities to capture the colour, elegance and majesty of Rajasthani life. From Jaipur’s grand royal residences to the Hindu’s holiest pilgrimage site Varanasi, from Sonepur’s rustic Cattle Fair to the serenity of Bodhgaya –Site of Lord Buddha’s enlightenment, this tour offers a kaleidoscope of vistas and colorful yet exotic moments to capture your attention . The tour starts and ends in the national Capital New Delhi.

On this unique photo expedition, you’ll benefit from the experience and rapport Nick has acquired over 15 years, and with the help of his trusted guides you’ll be able to communicate and gain a much fuller understanding of the people and cultures you meet, resulting in more meaningful photographs and deeper experiences.

About Nick Fleming - His photography has been exhibited throughout central London and the UK, and he has lectured at the Royal Geographical Society, the Victoria & Albert Museum, and the Indian High Commission. He was selected as the sole photographer in the Microsoft “I’m a PC” global campaign, and was the first photographer to be invited to exhibit and lecture at Art in Action, the UK’s largest festival of fine art and master craftsmanship Throughout the 15 years of his project, Living Divinely, Nick Fleming has spent many months living with spiritual communities and groups in order to cultivate a mutual relationship of trust which allows him to record the moments that truly reflect their way of life, uninhibited by any artifice. He’s travelled from Assam and Aranachul Pradesh in the far east, to the high Himalayas and Kashmir in the North, to Kerala and Maharashtra in the south as well as throughout Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. He’s lived with the Nihang spiritual warriors, Vaishnavite monks, and the Buddhist monks of Tawang. He’s travelled with Hindu mountain Brahmins, and photographed Naga Babas and Nath Yogis, and Sufis.


Day 1 - 8 Nov - Arrive Delhi

On arrival, you will be greeted by our company representative. He will assist you with your luggage and transfer you to the hotel by private vehicle.

Settle into the hotel and meet for group orientation in the evening. Guests will enjoy a slide show talk and celebratory welcome dinner.

Day 2 - 09 Nov - Delhi / Ajmer / Pushkar

Early morning transfer to New Delhi Railway Station to board day train to Ajmer 

Your first Photographic exposure – Indian railways and railway stations are fascinating shoot opportunities in their own right —with their platforms teeming with human populace, each with a story of their own life journey. The stations double up as mini cities on their own, thus allowing a multitude of clicks.

Shatabdi Express, 0600 hrs / 1245 hrs – (Air Conditioned Chair Car)

Arrive Pushkar and stay at the Pushkar Palace Hotel

Later visit the expansive fair ground where mind boggling opportunities await you such as thousands of animals , the dust laden sky, the beautiful maidens in the colourful skirts and handsome tribal men in their finery.  Nick and his assistant Dalbir will guide you as you try your hand in exploring the kaleidoscope which is Pushkar Fair.

Day 3 - 10 Nov - Pushkar

 

Explore the world famous Pushkar Fair. Walk around the fair grounds , shooting the decorated animals or the furious bargaining as farmers strike deals.   You will also explore the quaint town with its myriad temples and the holy lake which is the centre of all religious ceremonies.

By dusk, you would be a seasoned lens man with a feel for the kind of photographs you wish to capture. The night brings its own share of festivities such as ferris wheels, side shows, colours and clothes, vendors and bright street lights

We return to the hotel to freshen up, download and meals.

Day 4 - 11 Nov - Pushkar

 

Explore the world famous Pushkar Fair. Walk around the fair grounds , shooting the decorated animals or the furious bargaining as farmers strike deals.   You will also explore the quaint town with its myriad temples and the holy lake which is the centre of all religious ceremonies.

Day 5 - 12 Nov - Pushkar / Jaipur

 

This Morning provides a last chance for visiting the fair with its hordes, the fairground rides and the bustling mini markets.

After an early breakfast,  drive to Jaipur. The drive will provide many photographic opportunities such as camel pulled carts,  shy lasses in the villages, school children heading home and artisans at work. After lunch, walk in the walled city market followed by a visit to the elephant stables

Later visit Dera Amer camp to witness / photograph elephant bathing, feeding and painting followed by champagne dinner. This is great shooting material and if lucky, you can get up close to the land’s largest mammal and assist the Mahout ( elephant trainers )

Day 6 - 13 Nov -Jaipur / Delhi / Varanasi

 Early morning transfer to board flight to Delhi ( Jet Airways 2250, 0700 – 0750 hours) and then connecting flight to Varanasi ( Jet Airways 2483, 1040 -1155 hours)

Met on arrival at Varanasi airport and transfer to your hotel

Afternoon begin your photographic voyage of the world’s oldest living city

Evening attend prayer arti ceremony on the banks of the river. This grand spectacle is unforgettable, as you shoot away in photographer’s paradise.  The flames from the hundreds of prayer lamps, the chanting poker faced priests and the serene visages of the devotees make for arresting shots.

Day 7 - 14 Nov - Varanasi

 Before the sun makes an appearance, you could head out on a traditional boat on the river to catch the first glimmers of light creep over the far bank of the Ganges.  As the boat gently glides past , the city comes to life on its banks enabling you to capture early morning rituals and mundane chores performed by devotees and natives of the ancient land, through your lens.

The days are spent with Nick for opportunistic shooting , which are plenty, be it on the river banks with  devotees milling and taking a dip in the holy water, its numerous Hindu temples, its busy bazaar with narrow lanes or the architectural delight – Benaras Hindu University  built nearly a hundred years ago.  You will Interact with the locals in a tea stall or priests in the temples or wrestlers in their arenas, and go beyond the regular tourist spots.

Day 8 - 15 Nov - Varanasi

Day 9 - 16 Nov - Varanasi / Bodhgaya

 After breakfast, drive to Bodhgaya and explore the sites associated with Lord Buddha such as The Bodi tree and Animeshlochana - another sacred spot where the Buddha stood to gaze in gratitude at the Bodhi tree for a week.

Various temples  ( built by Japanese, Thai among other Buddhist nations ) and the  monks in their ochre robes make for arresting props to shoot away at leisure, with Nick constantly pointing out shots waiting to be clicked by you.

Day 10 - 17 Nov - Bodhgaya

 Nick will read the opportunities presented by the day and choose top locations for shooting in spiritual Bodhgaya, to ensure you get the best out of the day.

Day 11 - 18 Nov - Bodhgaya / Sonepur Fair

 After breakfast drive to Sonepur to explore the rustic cattle fair.

With Nick’s guidance, explore the fair grounds and watch the sun set and shoot a mix of sunlit, sunset, blue hour and night images to learn just how changing light can dramatically transform the mood.

Day 12 - 19 Nov - Sonepur Fair / Patna / Delhi

 Spend morning at the fair ground.

This afternoon transfer to Patna airport (25 Kms, 1 hour) to board flight to Delhi (Air India 408, 1515-1650 hours)

On arrival, check into a hotel near the airport and spend the evening editing and comparing photographs and reliving experiences, with Nick’s help.

Day 13 - 20 Nov - Depart Delhi

 Late Morning visit Old Delhi where many opportunities await you 

Here the focus will be on the Magnificence of  Jami Masjid (1656) and the Red Fort (1639) with its busy Bazaars with narrow streets which you will explore on cycle rickshaws. Each lane specializes in a commodity: Dariba Kalan for instance is the lane of jewelers and silversmiths while Kinare Bazaar sells a bewildering array of tinsel sequins. Rajghat – India’s most potent symbol of nationhood and memorial to Mahatma Gandhi.

Proceed to the International airport in time to board onward flight this evening / night.

(Reporting time for international flights is 3-4 hours prior to flight departure)
