The Bike4Tiger Challenge itinerary has been designed to experience the landscape penned in Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book and made into film by Walt Disney and support its conservation.

The Bike4Tiger Challenge travels between these two parks over 3 full days of fun off-road biking terrain. It’s about 180 kms of quiet dirt forest tracks and undulating trails along this connecting forest landscape, home itself to a number of elusive tigers. You will also travel through quaint and untouched tribal village communities that often bear the brunt of conflict with both predators and crop raiding prey like spotted deer, wild pig and Nilgai antelope.

The ride is designed for clients who like biking, are fit (or want to get fit!) and adventurous, but do not have to be expert off-road bikers. Ages varied from 35 to 75 in 2016. They should however enjoy a physical challenge, as they will cover between 45kms and 65kms each day, or 8 hours in the bike saddle, in glorious forest or rural terrain, most of it easy biking for those used to off road biking, but there are one or two uphill challenges and some fun off road downhills. The two nights of the trip are spent in a comfortable pre-set tented camp, besides forests and near village fields.

This is a unique challenge for clients who like getting off the beaten track and wants to get a real insight into India’s ancient rural heartland, and its forests whilst being happy to support its conservation efforts.

How it Works

This Bike4Tiger Challenge 2017 aims to raise US$26,000 for TOFTigers Village Wildlife Guardian project in Kanha, and will allow us to extend it through to Pench. The money raised will allow TOFTigers to train, equip and support a further 12 villagers to become wildlife guardians over two years around and along the route you are biking. Some funds will support other guardian programmes too.

In agreeing to join this Challenge we will be asking clients booked on this trip to raise a minimum of US$ 250 or more towards this project, and in return they will not only meet some of TOFTiegrs Guardians in Kanha on finishing the ride, but be kept informed and up to date with the new Guardians as we go forward and hear about their successes.

For more information regarding the Village Guardian programme see details here

Pench Tree Lodge

The famous Jungle Book character Mowgli was a wolf befriending boy from the tribal village of Pench. If Mowgli could enliven his escapades, Pench tree lodge would be his time warped home in 21st century. He could certainly somersault with the monkeys here or luxuriously laze under the shade of Mahua Tree, in the comforts of stylish, spacious and snugly tree houses set in regal landscapes. Later, deciding to set out on a Jeep Safari to meet ‘Shere Khan’–the Tiger and ‘Baloo’-the Bear and check on his troop of ‘Bander log’– monkey folks and all other good old friends from Pench national park.
Pench Tree Lodge is the refuge of the au courant, adventurous and eco sensitive ‘Mowgli’. Our six well appointed tree houses are perched in the undisturbed 16 hectares of forested area in the small ‘Sarrahiri’ village of Pench in the Karmajhiri area. This is the first lodge to be set up in this underdeveloped zone and supports are conservation policy of not overcrowding areas and making them unsustainable with over exposure to tourism.

Kanha Earth Lodge

Kanha Earth Lodge lies in 16 acres of natural forest, tucked away in a small hamlet bordering Kanha’s buffer zone. Its unique location, 30 minutes from the Khatia/Kisli park gate, ensures that it is close enough for easy access to the park, but still far enough from the glut of hotels lining Kanha’s tourist hub to offer guests a true wilderness experience. Our guests benefit from our incredible location, outstanding hospitality, experienced team of naturalists, and commitment towards conservation and local communities. The 12 luxury bungalows with en suite bathrooms and open verandahs have been inspired by Gond tribal architecture and offer environmentally sensitive, low-impact accommodation through their design and use of local stone and waste wood, while the absence of neighbouring lodges or highways creates an ideal setting for nature walks, birding and cycling trips through the surrounding forest.
